Vancouver,
BC. - September 18, 2001 - Destiny Media Technologies, Inc.
(OTCBB: DSNY), leaders in developing easy-to-use tools and
enabling technologies to distribute digital media via the
Internet, announced the final release of version 2.0 VideoClipstream™
today.
Product
Manager, David Stevenson comments on the evolution of VideoClipstream™
2.0. "This product represents a significant improvement over
the 1.0 release in four key areas: interface, security, tracking
and customization."
The interface
has evolved with customer requests and is much more flexible
and consumer friendly than version 1.0. The content owner
can trigger the applet to auto-detect the user's bandwidth
and a new random access interface makes it possible to seek
to any point in the video.
The original
play button for each bit rate has been replaced by a single
play / stop / pause interface for all bit rates. A video progress
bar and textual display has been added to provide more feedback
on buffering, bit rate detection and play back.
Security
is a priority with this release. VideoClipstream™ 2.0 is designed
to assist in preventing the piracy of video streams. The VideoClipstream™
security features specifically prevent stolen content (downloaded
.vcs files) to be streamed from other servers, as well as
preventing the piracy of streaming content and bandwidth by
sites who remotely refer to your content, and present it from
within their own web pages.
Tracking
and marketing abilities have also been enhanced. If a hyperlink
is present in the video, when the mouse is rolled over the
frame, the cursor will change to the standard pointing hand
cursor. When a user clicks on a frame, it is possible to send
specific data to the server for tracking purposes, such as
elapsed time, user IP and click co-ordinates (useful for hot
spotting). In addition specific URL calls can be made to facilitate
tracking mechanisms and trigger CGI scripts. This can be accomplished
in each individual frame and instigated by a click, or through
displaying bookend images which will give an indication of
the starting of the stream and if the stream was completely
viewed. This data passing capability will allow VideoClipstream
to work within the design parameters of most web statistic
tracking systems. Data can also be logged to a file.
The content
owner has more flexibility over the look and feel of the display.
To facilitate branding, look and feel, and marketing features
which will be covered later, VideoClipstream™ now allows for
the specification of bookend images at the beginning and the
end of the stream. These can be any static image that the
viewer will see prior to the stream starting and once the
stream has ended.
The look
and feel of the VideoClipstream™ player controls is fully
customizable. There are now twenty seven user configurable
parameters. Both the graphical look, and the relative geography
of the controls can be configured. Only a single graphical
element needs to be created to change the entire look and
feel of the player controls. The ability exists in VideoClipstream™
to enable "control free" playback. In this instance the playback
of the video is instigated by simply clicking anywhere within
the video screen to start and stop the video. This feature
can be used in combination with the hyper linking feature.
