Play MPE® Economics

The record labels pay us to deliver “packages” of songs to the recipient and currently the recipients receive the music for free. Industry professionals look to be members of our network, to be on our lists and solicit labels to send music into their Play MPE® account. As the network grows, the members create a form of viral marketing where labels desire for radio to actively download the song and radio’s desire to receive more content energizes the brand.

The price per package varies depending on whether the media is a single, bundle, album, box set or video. Majors typically pay a monthly minimum and independents typically pay a per song minimum. Billing is for each recipient selected to receive a package, whether they download the package or not.

We also have list based pricing for recipient lists that we manage. We encourage labels to select more lists by giving bonus lists free based on volume. Lists are priced on a flat basis, even though the number of names on a list fluctuates from day to day as we correct for changes in job position and employer. Some lists, such as VIP and internal staff lists are free as we encourage these key recipients to receive content in order to build our brand within the industry.

Because the system is completely automated, these transaction revenues are high margin. The label staff collaboratively enter needed data, rules, text, marketing copy, etc., then upload the audio, video and any attachments. The server follows these rules to process the uploaded content and to provide secure access to the recipients at the scheduled times. The servers automatically generate billing, similar to a transaction based long distance telephone bill.
